Free Job Search Help

When searching for a job in this economy, you can use all the help you can get. If your job search includes scanning through the internet for specific positions on those online job-searching sites, then you know how time-consuming it can be, even if you've uploaded several versions of your resume to a few places. Now, some sites will inform you that your resume's been looked at, but they neither tell you who it was, when it was, nor if somebody's decided to hang onto a copy of it. And until now, the only way to learn of any progress was to log onto the sites.

ResumeBear is a job-searching site that enables you to set up text and email alerts that will tell you in real time when your resume has been opened or if it is being read - sort of like putting a tracker and motion sensor on your resume. ResumeBear will also inform you if anybody forwards your resume to someone else, giving you a heads up for a possible near-future phone call. Nice, huh?

ResumeBear is real easy to use. Once you sign up for a free account, they'll email you a link to get started. Once logged in, and after giving some basic contact info, you have a choice between using their wizard to help build a resume, uploading one you already have in Word format, or letting one of their professional writers create a resume for you. Another nice feature that come with the free account includes being able to upload several versions of your resume, then identifying your most successful version.

Utilized properly, ResumeBear can become a more powerful and effective means of improving your chances of your resume being noticed, and helping to advance your career.

A Better Way to Land a Job

Unemployment really stinks.  And if you’re like me, you’ve added your resume to practically every job-searching site on the web, only to get daily emails with lists of jobs that either you’re not qualified for, or have nothing to do with your field.
So let me introduce you to something new that I've come across recently.  It’s called “Weedle.”  Unlike those other job-searching sites, Weedle connects you with people who need your skills, and when I say skills, I mean not only something you’ve done full-time, part-time, but even a hobby!  That’d be nice, huh?  Getting paid to do something you’ve done most of your life for fun?
So how does it work? According to their site, Weedle is a social networking site (much like LinkedIn, but different in that it also helps you get found on Google for your skill, versus job title).  For example, say you’re a Carpenter. On Weedle, instead of mentioning your title, you’d mention your skills, like “Cabinet Maker”, “House Builder”, etc., giving people a better chance of finding you.  And with all the names for jobs changing (waitress to server, stewardess to flight attendant, DJ to On-Air Talent, etc.), this could really be handy in making you stand out.
So look beyond the resumes, evaluate your skills, and discover the NEW way of searching for a job.
